Mozart Week 2026: A Landmark Anniversary Edition Returns

The international classical-music calendar for 2026 is growing richer than ever, led by the long-awaited return of Mozart Week 2026, taking place 23 January – 2 February 2026 in Salzburg. This special edition, titled Lux Aeterna, marks two major anniversaries: Wolfgang Amadé Mozart’s 270th birthday and the 70th anniversary of the world’s most important Mozart festival, founded in 1956.

The international classical-music calendar for 2026 is shaping up to be exceptionally rich, led by the long-awaited return of Mozart Week 2026, taking place 23 January – 2 February 2026 in Salzburg. This special edition, titled Lux Aeterna, marks two major anniversaries: Wolfgang Amadé Mozart’s 270th birthday and the 70th anniversary of the world’s foremost Mozart festival.

To honour this dual jubilee, the International Mozarteum Foundation will present a newly staged production of The Magic Flute, directed by Artistic Director Rolando Villazón. Supported by the Foundation’s artistic, scientific, and museum divisions, the festival will offer a uniquely immersive encounter with Mozart’s world — including historically informed dramaturgy, special exhibitions, and a new staging concept inspired by the colour universe of Mark Rothko.

A distinguished cast will bring Mozart’s timeless masterpiece to life under the baton of Roberto González-Monjas with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, featuring celebrated artists such as Kathryn Lewek, Franz-Josef Selig, Emily Pogorelc, and Magnus Dietrich.

Alongside Mozart Week, another standout event on the 2026 musical horizon is the Mozart Evenings Festival, set to return later in the spring — further enriching what promises to be an extraordinary year for Mozart enthusiasts around the world.

Mozart Week 2026 stands as one of the cultural highlights of the upcoming season — a vibrant celebration of Mozart’s eternal light and a testament to the enduring power of his genius.
